Just how important is it for entrepreneurs to use social media? 

The short answer: very. It’s very important. 

Social media is a powerful platform and an amazing resource to entrepreneurs. For the first time ever, we have tools to reach people all over the world. No matter what type of business you’re in, social media has a place in your marketing strategy.

The problem is, social media can also be a vortex of wasted time and energy is you don’t have a succinct strategy. 

Timothy Sykes, writing for Entrepreneur, talks about the need to stand out in social media:

“There is no arguing that social media has completely changed the way that we operate in today’s world. Everything from reaching customers, to dating, keeping in touch with family and reading the news has all been impacted by this new form of social interaction. With hundreds of millions of people using social media every day, it is extremely difficult to stand out on any of these platforms. However, a strong social media presence is essential for many companies to thrive in today’s market.” 

In other words, it’s a really crowded space.

How many people do you know that are NOT passionate about and active in some form of social media? Precious few.

I follow the social media space closely. It is not only the way most people communicate now, it is the most important communication and marketing of the future.

But the initial question is still hanging there. How do you stand out in such a crowded space?

Your Magic Niche

The success I’ve experienced has largely to do with what I believe is the most important factor in social media success.

Before you start posting or blogging you need to become an expert at something. Anything actually. You need a niche.

Let’s be honest and look at your own ‘clique’ habits on social media.

Do you really read all the ads that swim past you on your Facebook feed?
Do you even see them?
How many can you remember?

In the busy atmosphere that is social media, you tend to see the promotions in areas you’re already interested in.

So having a clear specialty is an absolute necessity, if you want to connect with a qualified audience.

The best way to identify your magic niche is to ask yourself ONE question…

What product, service or advice would you feel 100% confident to offer free of charge and only be paid on results after the fact? 

Once you know what the answer to your paid on results offer is, you’ve identified your magic niche.

Another quick-start solution is to find an area of interest to a lot of people. Mine is helping others understand the processes involved in buying and selling U.S. real estate. There is a huge pool of interested people cruising the internet who would love to learn how to buy and rent or flip U.S. real estate.

Whatever the focus of your entrepreneurial mind, get good at it. Then share your expertise with the world. You won’t attract everyone. But you will attract the attention of people  looking for what you are promoting.
