“The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.” – Henry Ford
No matter what you’re trying to achieve, you’re going to experience setbacks along the way. But the truth is, setbacks are one of the most valuable experiences on your path to success, so long as you know how to glean key lessons and move forward to achieve.
The trouble is, most people who experience setbacks tend to fall into a holding pattern, so the smartest ways to overcome obstacles and challenges can be counter-intuitive.
Believe me, I’ve had my fair share of successes and failures on the path to building 6 multi-million dollar revenue generating business and creating a $1 billion dollar portfolio of real estate assets. The path isn’t always smooth but the journey is part of the fun and adventure of life.
If you experience setbacks, you can these 3 tactics, so you know how to make the most of your valuable lessons and move forward to achieve.
#1. Take Action Now, Forget About ‘Tomorrow’
When I was just 16 years old, I was diagnosed and treated for terminal cancer. And when I beat the cancer, my entire mindset changed. I began to live life completely in the moment. Instead of procrastinating or daydreaming about my goals, I began to take action.
If you want to achieve your goals, you need to shift your mindset from the all too common idea that there’s always tomorrow, and really take on each day as though it’s a gift – because it truly is. Remember that your time is the most precious commodity you will ever possess have, so make the most of every moment.
#2. Live Outside Your Comfort Zone
One of the most common mistakes people make is clinging to your comfort zones, long after you’ve outgrown it.
You’d be amazed how much your perspective shifts by exploring new perspectives, meeting new people, taking on new hobbies – really anything to expand your horizons and activate your imagination again. You can start simple, even taking a different route to get home can shift your mindset.
Be sure to implement small changes at first, take on new hobbies, try that new dish – really experience life outside the drudgery of routine, and that alone will give you powerful energy and a massive boost in creativity that you can harness in your day to day life and your goals.
#3. Be a Risk-Taker
Taking calculated risks is important if you want to achieve your BIG goals.
Once you’ve experienced a setback is the best time to start looking for new opportunities to grow… so don’t shy away from a few risks! Don’t bang your head against the wall doing the same old, or run back to your safety net, instead, look at setbacks as a way for you to take on a new and bigger avenue to achieve your goals.
Fear of failure is the number one reason why people don’t take action to achieve in life. Confront that fear by taking risks. Ask yourself, what’s the worst that can really happen? You can even play out the worst case scenarios in your mind, because research shows that this actually helps people overcome fear.
Keep in mind, if you want to win big, you’ve gotta ante up and play a bigger game.
